OrthoLite is on a mission to make dress shoes more comfortable. We have the credentials. We have innovation. And we have the resources.
Our very own Olivia Billingsley, Sales Manager in our Premium division, is leading the charge. “As work from home and in-office lifestyles continue to merge, consumers expect a seamless blend of athletic ease, casual versatility, and refined style. For dress brands, comfort must be built in from the start, balancing support and wearability while staying true to brand identity and modern comfort expectations.”
That’s the crux: Engineering comfort into dress shoes is about choosing the right underfoot foundation. Not coincidentally, OrthoLite has worked to perfect a market-leading underfoot comfort solutions for nearly 30 years.
If you’re ready for comfort to co-star with fashion in your product lineup, here’s how the right insole can ensure your dress shoes are as pleasing to wear as they are to look at.
Ease the Pressure with Key Comfort Mechanisms
If a shoe fits properly, our bodies may not register discomfort immediately. Where do we feel it when it kicks in? Forefoot pressure, heel pain, and end‑of‑day fatigue.
The true test is if a shoe feels as good after a few hours as it does at the first moment you step-in. That long-term comfort is what secures a repeat customer and builds a brand following.
OrthoLite insoles help elevate all-day (or all-evening) comfort .
Cushioning Where it Counts
There are a few key criteria to look for when comfort is an objective.
- Energy return and rebound: These aren’t just for running shoes. These are qualities you can give your customers in a dress shoe–from flats to heels–with a thin insole. OrthoLite® X40™, for example, offers high energy return and high rebound. Thanks to the density of the foam, you don’t need a thick application to feel those comfort-forward benefits underfoot.
- Density: As described above, a strategically-formulated insole foams can provide an exceptionally cushioned feel in a thin package. OrthoLite® Imperial™ is our most dense foam and is a great option for any shoe without a large last allowance, like heels.
- Soft Asker: A soft Asker is an indicator of high step-in comfort. When you need to maximize comfort for a casual dress shoe (like a loafer), take a look at OrthoLite® R&R™. When we say “R&R,” we mean rebound and recovery. But your customers may experience it as a dose of rest and relaxation for their feet.
Benefits of Open-Cell PU Foam
Using open-cell polyurethane (PU), OrthoLite foams deliver immediate step-in comfort and absorb impact all day long, with resiliency and rebound.
OrthoLite’s open-cell PU formulas are able to deliver long-lasting cushioning that compresses very little over time (less than 5% compression set). In practical terms, this means cushioning, fit and comfort stay consistent not only through the day, but also throughout the lifetime of the shoe.
The low compression PU makes it equally effective at shock absorption. In sports and running shoes, the rebound of the insole foam helps determine performance. This applies to street-style and formal shoes, too. Open-cell PU foam promises excellent energy return, making all categories of shoes feel good right out of the box.
More Key Comfort Mechanisms
- Low Weight: OrthoLite insoles add minimal heft to the shoe for a light on the foot feeling.
- Breathability: Hot and sweaty? No thank you. OrthoLite’s performance-oriented breathability helps keep feet cool and comfy.
- Minimal profile: All of these attributes can be packed into a very thin insole (from 2 mm to 7.5 mm).
- Washable: Did you know that if your OrthoLite insoles are removable then they can be machine washed and air dried for the ‘feel like new’ sensation?
